Switzerland - Gornegrat Bahn is Europe's Highest Open-Air Cog Railway from Zermatt

We continued our daily excursion from the Glacier Paradise rode down with a cable car to Trockener Steg, changed ride to Furi Station and again transfered on our way up to Riffelberg Station where we waited for the Gornergrat Bahn up to the Gornergrat Alpine area.

We had a day Travelpass so we really had a very convenient opportunity to ride on all the gondolas, cable cars and cog rail.

The sun continued to shine so bright with 6 degrees temperature in Zermatt and in Gornegrat -2 degrees. the sunrays was warm enough like spring weather.

We enjoyed our ride with the Gondolas viewing other parts of the magnificent lower to higher alp mountains, The different ski stations, ski grounds and ski slopes of different skier levels.

Gornegrat Bahn has been operating for more than 100 years ascending to the panoramic mountain to Gornegrat 9'339 km from Zermat and is Europes' highest open air cogwheel railway. It is open 300 days a year, departs daily every 24 minutes.

The ride with the Gornegrat Bahn was a beautiful experience as we passed through tunnels, bridges, the way in the middle of forest and rocky alp mountains. More exciting as we were reaching at the top level almost at the peak of the majestic alpine mountains, so near to our eyes as of so near to touch.

Gornegrat is just located at the middle where the area is surrounded with the 29 four thousand metre peaks of the greatest Swiss alpines that crowns the Gornegrat, the second longest glacier in the Alps. It was so beautiful as the sunrays penetrating the snow peak mountains, an spectacular view on sunset, a magical picture during the fullmoon, the moonlight shines and brighten the surrounding peaks of alpine mountains.

One can stay overnight or more in the Kulmhotel Gornegrat and enjoy the wonder of nature with satisfaction.

We took the Gornegrat Railway late afternoon and arrived Zermatt early evening. We met our daughter and her boyfriend in Zermatt center and spent our dinner with Walliser speciality in a typical Walliser restaurant in Zermatt.

After dinner we proceeded to the train station where my daughter left their snowboards in the 24h depot baggage compartment for they plan to come the next day snowboarding.

We rode back to Täsch with the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn.

It was a very beautiful sunny day and an unforgetable excursion experience.
