Ready for Departure

My friend and i arranged our 4 days holiday to Holland with a travel agency.

Thursday morning we departed from Bern to Zurich International Airport Terminal B by train. Our tour guide welcomed us in the agency counter. We checked-in followed by passport and custom control. The rest of the time before departure, we spent free tax shopping in the departure area.

Our departure time was 8:30 a.m. with Air Holland. On board tasty snacks were served.

We arrived Amsterdam at 10:45 a.m. so our flight was about 1 hour and 15 minutes. It was a very comfortable short flight experience.

After completing the immigration formalities, we transfered to our ship hotel with a bus trip and checked-in our cabin.

We arranged our tour individually with an agency and started our Holland Tour Adventure.

Introducing Amsterdam

Amsterdam, the bustling metropolis of Holland, with its 1000 bridges and the world famous canal district, is always worth a visit, but especially in spring, at the time of the tulips bloom.
The special atmosphere of this city, famous museums, honored citizens and business houses, markets, elegant shops, the throng of boats and barges on the canals and many other things make this trip an unforgettable experience.

More About Amsterdam

Amsterdam is derived from Amstelredamme, a dam in the river - Amstel.

Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of Netherlands, with an urban population of 767,457 and metropolitan population of 2,158,592. The city is located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. It comprises the northern part of the Randstadt, the sixth-largest metropolitan area in Europe, with a population of approximately 8.1 million.

The city is the financial and cultural capital of Netherlands. The oldest stock exchange in the world is the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, located in the city center.

Amsterdam`s attractions are: historic canals, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Hermitage Amsterdam, Anne Frank House, red-light district, cannabis coffee shops.

Annual Amsterdam international visitors are more than 3.66 million.

The Red City

If you are curious about what is in the Red City then you have to visit the place.

The Red Light District

De Wallen, also known as Walletjes or Rosse Buurt, is a legalized prostitution area, the largest and most well known red-light district in Amsterdam. One could see hundreds of sex workers in an illuminated red light window or glas door displaying themselves, who offer their services behind the windows a part of a room or one-room appartment they rented. Here are also sex shops, sex museum and live shows of different clubs. This district has become a famous tourist attraction.

The red-light district was included in our tour together with a Japanese group. We entered on a club and we were surprised as we saw the live show one you can imagine. All the Japanese women, i and my friend covered our eyes so not to see what was happening but we did saw a part of the show. We were disgusted and went out of the club. This was part of our unforgetable experience in Amsterdam.

Flower Fields and Keukenhof

We went for a colourful tour that leads to the coastal region behind the dunes between Haarlem to Leiden, where the flowerfields extend in all their glory for miles and miles, like a magic carpet of daffodils, hyacinths, and tulips, all blaze with the richest and most delightfull colourings.

Keukenhof, a 70 acre estate, where millions of flowers are on show against background of fresh green follage on stately trees. Also visited Frans Roozen`s Tulipshow, a bulb exporters garden.

Hi Carol. Very interesting hub. I know what you are writing about for I often visit my sister in Holland which is only 20 minutes from Amsterdam. Like you, I was disgusted by what I have seen in the red light district. But then that´s the only negative thing I can say about Holland. The country is beautiful in it´s own way. Regards...

Thanks Thelma. I love Holland and Amsterdam, i adore the flower fields, cheese gouda, ceramics, culture etc. It is nice to take a boat ride in Amsterdam known to be Venice of the North.
